What is your reaction when you hear the announcement 2008 Missions Conference?

This Conference is for you to learn about the families that are an extension of our congregation who cannot worship with us because they are ministering in areas far and near. Some places are very difficult and dangerous, while other places are safe, but no less difficult. These folks take their children to another culture and learn another language in order to explain the love and claims of Jesus Christ to a people without the knowledge of freedom in Him.
There are several gatherings planned where you can put faces with the names you see regularly in the bulletin.
Another purpose of the Conference this year is to learn about a timely issue of our day—Islam. What do they believe about Jesus Christ, our Bible, our country and Christians?
In the January 2008 issue of Christianity Today is an article called “Jesus in Turkey, Rebirth of a Bloodied Church.” This is a detailed account of the condition of the church in Turkey. One of our guest speakers, Pastor Turgay Ucal, is featured in the article as “a Muslim-background pastor starting a Christian church for Muslim-background Turks”. I am sure he will tell us about his Church and the way the Lord is working there. Another missionary writes, “When a Turkish Kurd becomes a Christian, his whole life is ruined. The family cuts the Christian off, and he loses opportunities for marriage and jobs through the family network.”
Another guest speaker, Jud Lamos, works in Europe and West Africa. He will be informing us about his personal work with Adama and Murat and other students in their seminary programs, along with other ministries.
Mission week is packed with events for the whole family. Missionaries will meet with children in their classes and also address adults in a combined class. There will be special music at each worship service with the added bonus of a concert by the Korean Choir at the evening service on March 2nd. Be sure to attend the Wednesday Night Supper on March 5th featuring an Eastern menu. So, mark your calendars for these events and bring your whole family to the 2008 Missions Conference at Carriage Lane!
